Electrocatalytic Reduction of O-2 and CO2 with Electropolymerized Films of Polypyrrole Cobalt(II) Schiff-Base Complexes
The synthesis of 2-(3-pyrrole-1-yl-propylimino-methyl)-phenol (LH) and its cobalt complex (CoL(2)) are described. Electrochemical oxidation of CoL(2) in acetonitrile produces a conducting polymeric film at the electrode surface. The polymer films are catalytically active in the electroreduction of both oxygen and CO2. In the case of oxygen both the electrocatalytic activity of the electropolymerized films and the predominant product were dependent on the surface coverage.
