Determination of Rate Constants of Electrode-Reactions by Methods of Semi-Integral Electrochemistry Applied to Chronoamperometric and Chronocoulometric Curves
For a totally irreversible simple elctrode reaction occurring at a spherical electrode, an analysis procedure is presented for the determination of rate constants. It is based on methods of semi-integral electrochemistry and can be applied to chronoamperometric and chronocoulometric curves in the entire range of electrolysis time. The main equations of the reported procedure are very simple and easily analyzed. From them, those of Oldham for a plane electrode can be derived. The analysis procedure has been applied both to simulated and experimental data. The chosen system was 1 mM chromate in 1 M NaOH at 25 degrees C. A comparative analysis with Oldham’s procedure is also presented.
