Surface modification of a MCFC anode by electrodeposition of niobium
By utilizing the characteristics of a valve metal alloy capable of possessing specific electrocatalytic activity and corrosion resistance by molten salt metalliding, an attempt was made to use this alloy as the anode material for a molten carbonate fuel cell (MCFC). In this paper an MCFC anode was modified by the electrodeposition of niobium on the nickel surface in molten fluoride. Polarization experiments reveal that corrosion resistance as well as the electrocatalytic activity of the niobium-modified electrode is superior to that of an unmodified one.
