Spheroid metallocavitands [((Re-(CO)(3)L)(3))(2)L'] with a diameter of similar to 17 angstrom, possessing eight solvent-accessible calixarene-shaped receptors on the surface, were obtained from a Re-2(CO)(10), rigid NN donors (H-L), and flexible hexatopic N donors (L') in a one-step process.
