Analysis of the double pulse response for the following chemical reaction in the EC mechanism
The general solution for all modes of double-pulse voltammetry for an electrode process under Nernstian behaviour coupled with a following fast chemical reaction (EC mechanism) has been derived. The solution obtained involves a main contribution, the zeroth-order solution, as well as higher-order corrections which allow us to compute the response to any degree of accuracy by adding to the zeroth-order solution as many of these corrections as necessary. Also, this solution is not limited by the restriction t'/t << 1 (where t' is the duration of the second step) and so, the characteristics of the differential pulse polarography (DPP), differential normal pulse polarography (DNPP), reverse pulse polarography (RPP) and double potential step chronoamperometric responses can be described. Finally, procedures for quantitative kinetic data analysis aimed at determining the rate constants of the chemical reaction are discussed.
