An equation to estimate the costs of industrial size supercritical extraction systems was developed and used to estimate the cost of manufacturing (COM) of habanero pepper oleoresin on extraction cells ranging from 5 to 400 L. The correlation was based on quoted costs obtained for five different sizes of supercritical extraction plants, and took into consideration inflation with the use of a cost index for a chemical engineering plant.
