Coalescence of bubbles sampled for imaging
The use of surfactant (frother) in the various bubble sampling/imaging techniques is often recommended to avoid coalescence. From an examination of bubble encounters in the McGill bubble size analyser system it is concluded that coalescence is a rare event (<1 in 1000 encounter events) even in the absence of frother, making this concern unwarranted.
