Study on the use of waste silica functionalized with silanes as solidifying agent of harmful element-contaminated soils on industrial areas
Cu, Pb, In, Cd and As ions were adsorbed from aq. soil exts. on silane-functionalized SiO2, made of a spent V catalyst. (MeO)(3)Si(CH2)(3)NH4(CH2)(2)NH(CH2)(2)NH2 and (MeO)(3)Si(CH)(2))(3)SH were used for functionalization of SiO2. The 5-step sequential extn. was used for dissoln. of the soil-contained ions. The waste SiO2 was efficient in solidification of the harmful elements. The effectiveness of permanent binding of the ions depended on the amt. of org. ffgands attached to the SiO2 surface and the amt. of the sorbent used for the reclamation of soils.
