Characterization of the Liquid Product Obtained by the Pyrolysis of a Bicycle Tube
Bicycle tube, which contributes to a major percent in polymeric wastes, was pyrolyzed in a batch reactor made of stainless steel from a temperature range of 450 to 750 degrees C at a heating rate of 20 degrees C min to produce liquid fuels. The maximum liquid yield was 49.95% at a temperature of 700 degrees C. The pyrolytic oil was characterized for composition using gas chromatograph-mass spectrometry and also for its fuel properties using IS methods. The major components of the oil include alkanes, alkenes, and aromatics. The fuel properties of the pyrolytic products encourage their use as replacement for conventional liquid fuel.
