Pyrolysis-Solvent Extraction of Chicken Fats and Skins for Bio-oil Production
The abundance of chicken fats and skins as waste products from poultry industries have created a vital environmental issue. A feasibility study on converting chicken fats and skins waste into bio-oil via pyrolysis solvent-extraction was studied. The effects of pyrolysis temperature, solvent types, and pretreatment process on the product yield were investigated. Subsequently, 60 degrees C and hexane with pre-ultrasonication were selected due to higher bio-oil yield. The bio-oil gas chromatography-mass spectrometry analysis showed similar characteristics with gasoline and palm oil. Therefore, the abundance of chicken wastes has a potential to be converted into value-added bio-gasoline and, at the same time, improve the management of animal waste.
