Variation of Removal Ion Selectivity upon the functional Group Structure of Ion Exchange Resin
A series of anion exchange resines which have various tertiary amine as functional group has been synthesized by the reaction of chloromethylated polystyrene-divinylbenzene copolymer and the corresoonding tertiary amines [NMe3, NEt3, N(EtOH)3, NMe2Ph, NPh3, NnPr3)] in solvent. The fundamental properties such as bulk density, water content, appearance index, exchange capacity, effective size, and uniformity coefficient of synthesized anion exchange resines have been measured. Properties of the ion exchange resin upon substitutents have been discussed, in which more steric bulky amines than NMe3 have exhibited a better selectity for nitrate than for sulfate.
