Electrorefining of metallic Uranium
Electrorefining of uranium was studied for developing pyrometallurgical processing technology. Uranium was electrodeposited on solid cathode in LiCl-KCl eutectic with some CdCl2 as an oxidizing agent at 500℃. In every electrotransport, uranium metal deposit was obtained in the form of dendrite growing on the cathode surface regardless of the cathode current density variation and its shape. The growth of dendrites on the cathode surface was not homogeneous. It grew longer at the bottom edge of cathode than at the side surface of cathode.
