Effects of charge asymmetry in a nematic liquid crystal in contact with an amorphous tungsten trioxide layer
A new kind of a LC cell has been made, by using a standard sandwich configuration with one of the ITO electrodes covered by a thin layer Of WO3. In this LC cell the electro-optical response become polarity sensitive. The inhibiting switching configuration corresponds to the anodic polarization Of WO3 film. Here we present the time behavior of the charge and discharge both for the anodic and the cathodic currents. A model based on the charge carriers exchange between both the ITO-WO3 and WO3-LC interfaces is reported. Our model is also capable to explain the electric and the electro-optic asymmetric responses of the cell.
