The barrier and the antimicrobial properties of polylactide films covered with exopolysaccharide layers synthesized by Arthrobacter viscosus
Polylactide film was coated with bacterial egzoplysaccharide (layer thickness 1.34 and 2.68 g/cm(2)) to improve its O-2 and water vapor barrier properties as well as its antimicrobial activity against B. atrophaeus, M. luteus and S. aureus. The water vapor permeability decreased by 64-67%. The oxygen barrier increased approx. by 77% and 92%. The modified film showed antibacterial activity against Gram-positive bacteria and reduced the growth of M. luteus cells by more than 99% and S. aureus by more than 98%. The amt. of B. atrophaeus cells decreased by more than 88%.
