Use of chitosan and its modifications for removal of reactive dyes from aqueous solutions
Chitosan powder and its beads (unmodified, cross-linked with glutaraldehyde or epichlorohydrin optionally conditioned with NaHSO4) were used for adsorption of 2 corn. dyes. The highest adsorption capacity (4000-6000 mg/g) was achieved at cross-linked chitosan concn. 10.0 g/L, sorption time 24 h, pH 3.0 and initial concn. of dyes 1942.0-2014.0 mg/L. Chitosan powder was less efficient (330-590 mg/g). Adsorption processes were described by Freundlich or Langmuir isotherms.
