Surface of polyethylene film was modified by covering with an adhesive consisting of poly(vinylidene chloride) (PVDC) to improve its barrier properties. The 53% and 89% addn. of PVDC to the adhesive system resulted in increase in the O-2 barrier properties of laminates by 42-85% compared to the unmodified adhesive. An increase in thickness of adhesive layer resulted in a decrease in O-2 permeability of the laminates, regardless of the PVDC content.
