A new alkaloid has been isolated from Isatis costata C. A. Mey. and assigned structure 1 on the basis of spectroscopic data including 1D and 2D NMR techniques. Methyl 2-acetoamidobenzoate ( 2), beta-sitosterol (3), and ursolic acid ( 4) were also isolated for the first time from this species.
