Communication-Gas-Chromatographic Analysis of Hydrogen Evolved from Magnesium Electrode during Anodic Dissolution
An electrochemical cell combined with a gas chromatograph was developed for in-situ determination of the hydrogen evolution rate from a magnesium electrode during anodic dissolution. This method enables the qualitative and quantitative analysis of the gas generated on working electrode since the gas is directly delivered to a gas chromatograph by a stream of carrier gas. The gas evolved on the magnesium electrode was clearly discriminated in the chromatogram and the hydrogen evolution rate of the order of 10(-8) mol cm(-2) s(-1) was determined.
