Cyclic voltammetry study of the electrocatalytic reduction of sevoflurane by a cobalt(III) Schiff base complex in the presence of oxygen
The electrocatalytic reduction of sevoflurane has been carried out at a platinum electrode using cyclic voltammetry. It was found that the sevoflurane molecule is non-electroactive in the potential region between 0.5 and -2.3 V vs. Ag/AgCl (satd.) electrode in dimethyl sulphoxide (DMSO) solution. However, the results show that, in a mixture with oxygen, cobalt(III) Schiff base complex (CoLOAC), and sevoflurane, an irreversible peak appears at about -1.77 V vs. Ag/AgCl (satd) electrode. It was observed that the peak height increases linearly with sevoflurane concentration up to 7.5 mM. The detection limit is estimated to be 0.5 mM. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
