Electrochemical reactivity of formamidoxime on Pt(111) and (100) single-crystal surfaces in 0.1 M NaOH solution
Oximes are organic compounds with a characteristic = N-OH group, derived by condensation of carbonyl-groups with NH(2)OH. In 0.1 M NaOH medium, formamidoxime (F(NOH)) molecule undergoes electrocatalytic reduction at Pt(1 1 1) and (1 0 0) single-crystal surfaces, which process involves UPD (underpotentially deposited) H. At Pt(1 1 1) plane, the reduction process is preceded by reversible adsorption of F(NOH) species in the double-layer potential range. These findings were confirmed through application of cyclic voltammetry and complementary for the (1 1 1) plane electrochemical impedance spectroscopy measurements, which allowed derivation of the kinetic parameters for both F(NOH) reduction, as well as UPD of H processes.
