Investigation of the Markovnikov Regioselectivity Rule in terms of ABEEM-sigma pi Model: A Site Activation Method
Electrophilic additions of HF and HCl to a series of asymmetric alkenes have been investigated by the ab initio and ABEEM-sigma pi model in the gas phase. In the ABEEM-alpha pi model, the site activation method is studied by discussing changes in the local softness, Fukui function, and global softness from reactants to transition states. Compared with the substituent Hammett constants sigma(p), most negative-valued point of molecular electrostatic potentials in the pi-region (V-min, values), and K-ED that is a characteristic mark of the electron density at the pi-region in the initial-state of the alkenes obtained by molecular face model, indicates that the ABEEM-sigma pi model could well describe the regioselectivity rule in terms of the site activation method.
