Comparison of bioindication methods for assessing the level of air pollution with heavy metals in Warsaw
The Pb, Zn, Cd and Cr contents were detd. in moss samples (Sphagnum fallax H. Klinggr.) and pine needles (Pinus sylvestris L.) collected near the sources of pollution (steel mill, provincial road, housing estate). The pine needles accumulated smaller amts. of metals than the moss. The biggest differences were found for Pb. The contents of heavy metals in bioindicators placed in around steel mill were approx. twice higher than those in other locations. Along with increasing distance from the source of pollution, the metal contents in bioindicators significantly decreased.
