Use of high level basic linear algebra subprograms (BLAS) in viscoelastic flow simulations
This paper discusses the advantages of using higher level Basic Linear Algebra Subprograms (BLAS) in linear equation solvers. On workstations with cache memory, the execution time to solve a system of linear equations can be reduced by as much as 90% (10-fold speedup) by using Level 3 BLAS. The frontal elimination code developed at M.I.T. [1] is modified to exploit Level 3 BLAS. The enhanced frontal solver runs at around 550 Mflops on a single processor of a Gray C90, and about 3-4 times slower on a 195-MHz SGI Power Challenge.
