Hybrid composite materials of a polymer matrix reinforced with fibers. Mechanical and ballistic properties
Hybrid polymer-matrix composites were made by vacuum resin transfer molding of an epoxy resin and glass/carbon and glass/aramide reinforcement fabrics. The composites were studied for mech. strength at variable temp. from -40 degrees C to 50 degrees C, and ballistic resistance by the fragment std. projectile (1.1 g). The properties of the hybrid polymer composites were compared with the properties of the polymer composite plates made of only one type of reinforcement (glass fiber fabric or carbon fabric). The hybrid composites may be used for ballistic purposes.
