Logical Gates Using a Nonlinear Chemical-Reaction
We present a system of continuous flow stirred tank reactors (CSTR) to build logical gates using a bistable nonlinear chemical reaction. Each reactor operates in the bistable region of the well-known minimal bromate reaction as described by the NFT model. The reactors are flow rate coupled according to the rules given by a feedforward neural next. Coupling is controlled by a conventional computer (PC) according to a linear coupling equation. We are able to solve the simple Boolean functions AND and OR as well as their negations NAND and NOR with three reactors. For the solution of the more complex XOR and XNOR problem, our setup is extended to five reactors. Specific conditions to carry out the experiments are given.
