Photoinduced absorption dichroism and refractive index changes for poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) films containing p-(dimethylamino)azobenzene (methyl yellow) were measured during photoisomerization. Photoinduced anisotropy of molecular orientation was analyzed quantitatively, and the correlation between photoinduced birefringence and anisotropy of molecular orientation were discussed.
