A sumanene-based aryne "sumanyne" was generated from o-(trifluoromethylsulfonyloxy) sumanenyl pinacolatoborane with CsF under microwave irradiation. Formation of a sumanyne intermediate was confirmed by a reaction with diene compounds to afford the Diels-Alder adducts, and its structure was determined by single-crystal X-ray structure analysis.
