Polylactide (PLA) film was studied for O-2 and CO2 permeability. The PLA pellet was modified by blending with other biodegradable polymers or by adding mineral fillers. The packaging film was found suitable for packaging fresh cut fruits and vegetables. The incorporation of 10% bentonite into PLA matrix and prepn. of a blend of PLA with poly(1,4-butylene-co-terephthalate-1,4-butylene adipate) (50/50) resulted in a significant increase in gas permeability.
