Cu(II) Coordination Polymers as Vehicles in the A(3) Coupling
A family of benzotriazole based coordination compounds, obtained in two steps and good yields from commercially available materials, formulated as [Cu-II(L-1)(2)(MeCN)(2)]center dot 2ClO(4)center dot MeCN (1), [Cu-II(L-1)(NO3)(2)]center dot MeCN (2), [Zn-II(L1)(2)(H2O)(2)]center dot 2ClO(4)center dot 2MeCN (3), [Cu-II(L-1)(2)Cl-2](2) (4), [Cu-5(II)(L-1)(2)Cl-10] (5), [Cu-2(II)(L-1)(4)Br-2]center dot 4MeCN center dot(Cu2Br6)-Br-II (6), [Cu-II(L-1)(2)(MeCN)(2)]center dot 2BF(4) (7), [Cu-II(L-1)(2)(CF3SO3)(2)] (8), [Zn-II(L-1)(2)(MeCN)(2)]center dot 2CF(3)SO(3) (9), [Cu-2(II)(L-2)(4)(H2O)(2)]center dot 4CF(3)SO(3)center dot 4Me(2)CO (10), and [Cu-2(II)(L-3)(4)(CF3SO3)(2)]center dot 2CF(3)SO(3)center dot Me2CO (11), are reported. These air-stable compounds were tested as homogeneous catalysts for the A(3) coupling synthesis of propargylamine derivatives from aldehyde, amine, and alkyne under a noninert atmosphere. Fine tuning of the catalyst resulted in a one-dimensional (1D) coordination polymer (CP) (8) with excellent catalytic activity in a wide range of substrates, avoiding any issues that would inhibit its performance.
