Electronic-State Dependence of Intramolecular Proton-Transfer of O-Hydroxybenzaldehyde .2. Substituent Effect
The excited-state dependence of the intramolecular proton transfer of o-hydroxybenzaldehyde and related molecules in the vapor phase has been studied by means of emission spectroscopy, Substituent effects on the fluorescence quantum yields from the lowest and second excited (1)(pi,pi*) states can be explained by considering the nodal pattern of the wave function along with the delocalization of the Jr lone electrons in the excited state.
