Synthesis of Optically Clear Molecular Organogels Comprising Phenol and Surfactants of Sulfosuccinic Acid
p-Chlorophenol (phenol) and the surfactant bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate (AOT) were used to produce organogels. We previously reported that phenol + AOT gels are optically clear only in cyclic alkane solvents but have high turbidity otherwise. In emitter dispersals, the turbidity may cause undesirable light scattering. Herein, an AOT derivative, with tridecyl groups attached to the succinic ester, and phenol were combined to form gels that are clear, even in aromatic and acyclic solvents. These gels are transparent over the entire visible region.
