Synthesis of TiO2 spheres and their utilization in the enhancement light-extraction efficiency of WLEDs
Titanium dioxide (TiO2) spheres were synthesized by a solvothermal reaction methodand. sintered at different temperatures. The mixed anatase and rutile phase was observed at 800 degrees C and these were transformed to pure tetragonal rutile phase at above 900 degrees C. The size of TiO2 spheres was increased by increasing the sintering temperature. The diffused reflectance spectra exhibited a higher reflectance for rutile than that of anatase phase. White light-emitting diodes (WLEDs) were fabricated by combining the mixture of TiO2 spheres and commercial YAG:Ce3+ phosphors with blue LED chip. The fabricated WLEDs with the combination of rutile TiO2 spheres, commercial YAG:Ce3+ phosphor, and blue LED chip to improve the light-extraction efficiency of about 43.6% than that of the fabricated WLEDs with combinations of commercial YAG:Ce3+ and blue LED chip.
