Synthesis and crystal structure of 2,9-bis(2-fluorobenzyl)-beta-carbolin-2-ium bromide
A new compound of 2,9-bis(2-fluorobenzyl)-beta-carbolinium bromide, C25H19BrF2N2 has been synthesized by the decarboxylation of ethyl beta-carboline-3-carboxylate with 2-fluorobenzyl bromide in the presence of sodium hydride in DMF, with good yield (92%). Its structure was characterized by H-1 and C-13 NMR, FT-IR, MS (ESI-MS) spectrum and elemental analysis. Meanwhile, its crystal structure was determined by X-ray single-crystal diffraction. The crystal is of orthorhombic, space group P2(1)2(1)2(1) with a = 7.4788(13), b = 15.548(3), c = 17.386(3) angstrom, V = 2021.7(6) angstrom(3), Z = 4, F(000) = 944, D-c = 1.529 g/cm(3), mu = 2.066 mm(-1) and alpha = 90 degrees, beta = 90 degrees, gamma = 90 degrees. It has potential as an anticancer agent.
