Commercially available epoxy resin as a raw material for synthesis of 2,2-bis[4-(2,3-dihydroxypropoxy)phenyl]propane dicarbonate
Three corm epoxy resins and pure bisphenol A diglycidyl ether were studied for thermal stability. The bisphenol A diglycidyl ether was prepd. by vacuum distn. of an epoxy resin. The 2,2-bis14-(2,3-dihydroXypropoxy)phenyl]propane dicarbonate was prepd. in high yield (85-96%) by conversion of the ether. Its structure was confirmed by spectroscopic methods. The biscyclic carbonate showed a high thermal stability.
