Cake Filtration of Multicomponent Suspensions
To investigate the separation behavior of multicomponent suspensions (emulsion slurries) consisting of oil droplets and solid particles suspended in water, cake filtration experiments were conducted. Results indicated that up to a certain volumetric content of oil droplets all oil was held back by the filter cake. Due to the deposition of the oil droplets inside the filter cakes, low porosities were obtained, which led to high specific cake resistances. The relationship between resistance and porosity could be well described using an established power law approach. Consequently, the results show an extended range of validity to lower filter cake porosities.
