Comparative Study of Single and Multiple Pollutants System Using Ti-Fe Chitosan LDH Adsorbent with High Performance in Wastewater Treatment
Ti-Fe chitosan (LDH) nanoparticles with nitrate intercalated anions as a novel adsorbent were produced via milling technique. The synthesized LDH was characterized by XRD, FT-IR, BET surface area, zeta potential, FESEM, and HRTEM. The adsorption capability of novel catalyst was under study with regard to several pollutants in the wastewater (phosphate, cadmium, and benzoquinone) in single and multiple solutions. Ti-Fe chitosan LDH demonstrated high activity toward cadmium and benzoquinone and succeeded to remove 98% of both and 63% of phosphate in wastewater at pH = 8. However, in multiple solutions, the results reached 58, 95, and 82% removal of cadmium, benzoquinone, and phosphate, respectively, at the same pH. The kinetics and mechanism of adsorption strength over the adsorbent were further studied. Furthermore, the adsorption of cadmium was confirmed by potentiometric analysis. Astonishingly, the novel LDH indicates acceptable antimicrobial activities against some species of bacteria and fungi.
