Electrochemical Behavior of Dy2O3 on Molybdenum and Liquid Tin Electrodes in Molten CaCl2
The electrochemical behavior of dysprosium oxide at a solid molybdenum and a liquid tin electrodes have been investigated by cyclic voltammetry and square wave voltammetry in molten CaCl2 at 1173 K. It was investigated that deposition potentials of calcium and dysprosium at liquid tin electrode are more positive than those at a solid molybdenum electrode. Meanwhile, our results proved that the dysprosium oxide can be reduced at both molybdenum and liquid tin electrodes. There are two steps for Dy2O3 reducing on Mo electrode while only one reduction step can be seen on liquid tin electrode. The Dy-Sn alloys were obtained through long time electrolyzing on a liquid tin cathode. The reduction mechanism for the reducing process was also investigated in this paper.
