Tris(N-phenyltriazole) derivative - New compound with star shaped anisometry and discotic liquid crystals behavior
In this article, we present the synthesis, structural characterization, thermal and photophysical studies of the first derivative of the tris( N-phenyltriazole) core presenting liquid crystalline properties. The compound presents a star shaped anisometry with 6 long alkoxy chains (C12) and shows a short range monotropic columnar hexagonal mesophase, as confirmed by polarized optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction measurements using synchrotron radiation. The molecular structure and purity were confirmed by H-1 and C-13 nuclear magnetic resonance and high resolution mass spectrometry, while thermogravimetric analysis indicate good thermal stability. The photophysical investigation of the target compound in chloroform solution shows strong blue emission (maximum at 420 nm) with high luminescence relative quantum yield (72%). [GRAPHICS] .
