The sustainable handling of material and energetic resources is becoming increasingly important. Therefore, the formic acid production based on renewable resources is examined. If natural gas is used as feedstock together with the exploitation of renewable energy sources, a low emission and economically reasonable production becomes possible. The proposed approach is a useful tool for evaluating different concepts in the context of energy transition since the considered production network is easily interchangeable and expandable.
