Direct Gas-phase CO2 Reduction for Solar Methane Generation Using a Gas Diffusion Electrode with a BiVO4:Mo and a Cu-In-Se Photoanode
Solar methane generation was demonstrated using a GDE loaded with Cu and Ag as a cathode, and a CoPi/BiVO4:Mo film as a photoanode combined with a CIS-PV. Instead of using dissolved CO2 in a solution, gas-phase CO2 was utilized by directly flowing it from one side of the porous GDE at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. As a result, the solarto-chemical energy conversion efficiency of 0.56% for CH4 generation was achieved without external or chemical bias.
