Precipitation of rare earth elements from model and real solutions by using alkaline and sulfur compounds
Sixteen rare earth elements (REE)-contg. stock soln. was treated with NaOH, Na2CO3, Ca(OH)(2) or Na2CS3 to ppt. insol. REE hydroxides. Their concn. in soln. decreased from 200 mu g/L down to even <0.1 mu g/L. A REE-contg. acidic effluent formed as a result of natural geochem. processes was also treated with NaOH to increase its pH from 2.4 to pH 7.0 and 8.0. After the treatment, the concn. of 16 REE was decreased down to even <0.1 mu g/L.
