Twenty-five samples of corn. poly(ethylene terephthalate) were irradiated at 340 nm for 96 h and studied for changes in UV-visible spectrum, color and elasticity. Degrdn. of the polymer resulted in formation of unsatd. bonds and carbonyl groups and change in the color (yellowing). No decrease in its tensile strength was obsd.
