Recently, Chen et al. presented a fascinating paper about the synthesis and mechanochemical transformation of ladderenes. These compounds are sufficiently stable to undergo controlled transformation to polyacetylene if exposed to mechanical load caused, for example, by ultrasound. The present paper adds a closer analysis of the behaviour of the electronic structure under these conditions as well as a study of the photochemical behaviour.
