Comments and further analysis on the "Determination and correlation of the solubility of tricin in water and ethanol mixtures"
Some errors were discovered relating to the published equation coefficients of Cheng and co-workers [J. Chem. Thermodyn. 89 (2015) 89-92] for mathematically describing the solubility behaviour of tricin in water and ethanol mixtures using the modified Apelblat equation and lambda h equation. There was large difference between the back-calculated solubilities using the published equation coefficients and the mole fraction values as stated in the published paper for the two models. Additionally, the preferential solvation parameters (delta x(1,3)) of tricin in the solvent mixture of ethanol (1) + water (2) were derived from their available solubility data using the inverse Kirkwood-Buff integrals method. Within the composition 0.25 < x(1) < 1, tricin was preferentially solvated by ethanol; and in the other composition regions, by water. (C) 2018 Elsevier Ltd.
