Internal influences of hydrolysis conditions on rutile TiO2 pigment production via short sulfate process
Rutile TiO2 white pigment was prepared via short sulfate process by using the unenriched industrial TiOSO4 solution as titanium source through authigenic seed hydrolysis process. The effects and internal influences of hydrolysis conditions on the structure, particle size distribution and pigment properties for the as-synthesized samples were investigated, involving the inducing hydrolysis water volume ratio, ripening time and hydrolysis time after the second boiling point. These hydrolysis factors influenced the number and quality of the initial formed hydrolysis nuclei, the crystal growth and the particle aggregation velocity, eventually determined the pigment properties. And the conditions had internal mathematical regression correlation with crystal structure, particle polydispersity index and pigment properties. The optimal inducing hydrolysis water volume ratio is of 0.123, ripening time is of 29.05 min, and hydrolysis time is of 2.6 h.
