Effect of terminal pH on morphology of calcium carbonate crystals precipitated from Solvay post-production sludge
By-product sludge from industrial Solvay soda process was satd. with CO2 at 60 degrees C and decreasing pH from 10.9 down to 6 to ppt. CaCO3 crystals. Along with pH decrease, the vol. of fine crystal fraction 0.3-2.5 mu m increased. At the same time, the amt. of amorphous phase decreased. The pptd. grains showed mostly a rhombohedral structure.
