Nonisothermal devitrification study of an aluminosilicate glass matrix
Nonisothermal kinetic parameters of devitrification for a glass in the Li-Si-Al-O system were determined by differential thermal analysis. Using the Ozawa method, we determined the value of the Avrami exponent to be 1.83 +/- 0.05. Consequently, in accordance with work by J. W. Christian, we suggest that a diffusion process kinetically controls the Li2SiO3 and virgilite concomitant crystallization growth mechanism. Furthermore, the values of apparent activation energy for crystallization, as determined by different analytical methods, ranged from 182 to 200 kJ/mol, with the same deviation (+/- 8 kJ/mol). These values are in a good agreement and reveal the propensity of this glass composition to crystallize easily.
