New multifunctional tetra-arylethene and its one-dimensional coordination polymer were constructed. Their structures were confirmed and the behavior of photochromism and fluorescence were investigated. Results showed that the tetra-arylethene monomer showed prominent aggregation-induced emission (AIE) in solution and the coordination polymer exhibited reversible photochromism in the solid state.
