Synthesis of aromatic poly(ether ketone)s bearing 9,9-dialkylfluorene-2,7-diyl units through nucleophilic aromatic substitution polymerization
2,7-Bis(4-fluorobenzoyl)fluorene reacted with 4,4-oxybiphenol to give 2,7-fluorenediyl-containing poly(ether ketone), which is insoluble in CHCl3 and DMSO. On the other hand, 9,9-dihexyl/diethyl-2,7-bis(4-fluorobenzoyl)fluorenes reacted with 4,4-oxybiphenol to give the desired poly(ether ketone)s, which are soluble in typical organic solvents. Furthermore, polymerization of 9,9-diethyl-2,7-bis(4-fluorobenzoyl)fluorene with several aromatic diols afforded the corresponding aromatic poly(ether ketone)s. Almost all the resulting poly(ether ketone)s have good organosolubility, thermal stability (T-g=120-199 degrees C), and blue-green or green-emitting properties.
