Analysis of concentration of benzo(a)pyrene and smoke opacity from the compression-ignition engine
An automobile engine (1248 cm(3) capacity) was used at speeds of 1500 and 3000 rpm and torque values in the range of 10-80 N.m to det. the content of soot and benzo(a)pyrene in the exhaust gas. The soot content measurement was carried out by detg. a degree of blackening of a paper filter of a smokemeter. Then the deposit from the filter was washed with CH2Cl2, and the eluate was studied by chromatog. for content of benzo(a)pyrene. Correlation between the pollutants was not obsd.
